Dingle
We started this morning with our first review of the trip. I find these reviews very helpful with the added bonus of getting to see how others are seeing the trip.
We had a long day ahead of us heading eventually to the city of Dingle. It was another clear and warm (for Ireland) day. We stopped Inch Beach that was filled with sun loving Irish. Kids were playing with buckets in the sand while others were flying kites in the breeze.
Our initial plan was to stop at a castle ruin and enjoy our box lunches. However, the sunny day and lack of shade meant eating on the bus while traveling to our next destination seemed like a better choice. We traveled on to Dingle.
Dingle is a small coastal town on a hillside with small winding streets and lots of pubs. We decided to spend the afternoon Foxy John’s for the libation of choice. The patrons came and went depending on what game was playing on the tv.
We had a session scheduled with two traditional Irish musicians at Benners. While setting up for the music, we enticed one of the patrons to pose for us for a few pictures. As it turned out, she does modeling part-time and was needing a new headshot. It also was her birthday so we sang and bought her a drink.
The musicians arrived awhile later for their session. The woman is a quite well known Irish folk singer that plays the button accordion and the man is a guitarist and a bit of a curmudgeon . They sang a variety of music, both songs they had written and traditional Irish dance songs. We were in a beautiful little courtyard at the back of the pub. It was very special to get to hear such lovely music.
We walked down the street to Fenton’s for dinner. I will say the food has been outstanding on this trip. Tonight I had monkfish, known as poorman’s lobster, with scallops. It was apparent that this is a popular restaurant.
On our way back we stopped for a landscape shot that turned into a photo session with some very curious cows. When they saw us standing on the fence line they came running to see what we were up to. Very cute!
Tomorrow: Ring of Kerry
